Who we are

Project Rowan is a Joint Venture between Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners and Birch Infrastructure, designed to deliver low cost net zero solutions to green data centres located on Rowan sites. Rowan’s scope of services include land acquisition, renewable power supply and other infrastructure and utilities. The joint venture has identified and is actively developing multiple, strategically-located sites across the US to host next-generation, mission critical, hyperscale data centers powered by renewables. Rowan aims to design and configure each site to deliver sustained and long-term competitive land and power cost advantages, provide low-cost renewable power supply and assist hyperscale data center operators in meeting their accelerating carbon reduction and ‘net zero’ targets.

Impact around the clock

Industrial energy users increasingly must understand the carbon impact of their consumption down to the hour and at the facility doorstep. That’s why Rowan is actively pursuing auditable, 24/7 tracing of power supply and granular measurements of carbon impact. The long-term aim is to allow our customers to be able to verify and publicly demonstrate that every kWh used was sourced from specific green energy projects via a blockchain-based tracing platform. This will also integrate granular measurement of hourly carbon impact on the part of the grid the project is actually connected to. Better carbon impact measurement can be done today and Rowan has announced a partnership with REsurety to use its recently launched Locational Marginal Emissions data product which calculates carbon emissions at each node on an electric grid with hourly granularity. This allows Rowan’s data center customers to understand how much their load is contributing to their decarbonisation goals.
